LAPD Police Chase Gang Member Up To No Good Wearing Ski Mask Armed With A Gun. August 31, 2024

The Los Angeles Police Department released dashcam, surveillance camera footage, picture and details about a police chase that ended in crash on August 31, 2024.

At around 4:50 p.m., Hollenbeck gang enforcement detail officers were in the area of Soto Street and 4th Street when they saw an individualin a strip mall wearing a ski mask, armed with a handgun, enter a dark gray BMW sedan with a known gang member. As the BMW pulled out of the strip mall and into traffic, the officers pulled in behind the BMW with their police vehicles, emergency lights, and sirens activated, requested the assistance of additional patrol units
and an air unit and a supervisor.

The driver then quickly accelerated away at a high rate of speed.

The driver of the BMW was later identified as a 17-year-old juvenile.

The officers initiated a vehicle pursuit as the driver of the BMW refused to stop, continued accelerating at a high rate of speed, committed numerous traffic violations,and eventually entered the westbound 10 freeway.The driver continued accelerating at a high rate of speed, transitioned onto the 101 freeway, and ultimately exited at Mission. Upon exiting the freeway, the driver continued driving erratically at a high rate of speed and committed numerous additional traffic violations, resulting in the air unit taking over the pursuit in tracking mode.A short time later, while traveling northbound on Spring Street near Ann Street, the BMW veered onto southbound lanes, lost control, and collided with a 2014 Toyota Prius which was traveling southbound on Spring Street. The impact of the crash caused the Prius to be launched against a nearbybuilding.
Following the collision, the officers were able to take the driver of the BMW into custody without incident.

Los Angeles Fire Department paramedics responded to the scene and transported the occupant of the Prius to a local hospital to be treated for the critical injuries she sustained as a result of the traffic crash.

Los Angeles Fire Department paramedics also transported two of the three passengers of the BMW to a local hospital to be treated for the injuries they sustainedas a result of the traffic crash.

The juvenile driver of the BMW was arrested for felony evading.

The LAPD Traffic Group Multidisciplinary Collision Investigation Team was notified of the vehicle crash resulting in the serious injury of this innocent person and responded to the location to conduct this critical traffic crash investigation recovered nitrous oxide and numerous stolen checks inside the BMW at the scene of the traffic crash and booked them as
evidence.
Juvenile driver was cited out to juvenile court for felony evading.

Juvenile driver is a 17 year old resident of Los Angeles.
