This is an aerial view of the 15 acre refugee migrant camp, which is a joint venture between the OPW and John Sisk & sons, who are contracted to build 10 of these sites across the state of Ireland.

Clonmel is camp number 9.

It is being built on a 15 acres northwest of clonmel town centre. And it has private homes approx 100 metres from the entrance.

There was no planning required due to the special exception for the “war” in the Ukraine. There was no consultation or liaison with the local homeowners or community.

The local politicians played dumb and kept quiet about it but they all knew, but didn’t want to upset their own chances of re-election which were happening at the same time this development started.

There is a lot of scandal in the news at the minute particularly around the OPW and John Sisk & sons and the public contracts and costs. This is the biggest one of those, it will cost well in excess of €42m and according to Eibhlin Byrne of the department of integration not one Irish person will ever get to live in one of the 82 modular 2 bedroom units.

And yet The vast majority of local people are silent on this.

It’s like as if they have Stockholm syndrome..
