The Secret Of NIMH (1982)

In "Mrs. Brisby and the Rats of NIMH," Mrs. Brisby, a widowed field mouse, struggles to protect her ailing son Timothy as plowing time approaches on the Fitzgibbons' farm. Seeking help, she visits Mr. Ages, who diagnoses Timothy's pneumonia and warns of the dangers outside. After a series of adventures—including a narrow escape from the farm's cat, Dragon, and meeting Jeremy the crow—Brisby learns from the Great Owl about a colony of intelligent rats led by Nicodemus. The rats, enhanced by experiments from the National Institute of Mental Health, agree to help move her home, but internal conflict arises with the power-hungry Jenner plotting against Nicodemus. Amidst a storm, Brisby faces numerous challenges, including sabotaged plans and the threat of extermination from NIMH. Ultimately, her courage activates a magical amulet, allowing her to save her family and secure the rats' safe departure to Thorn Valley, while Timothy begins to recover.
