23 Years in a Jesus Commune

In 1972 the group that established Jesus People USA (JPUSA) separated from Jesus People Milwaukee, WI. JPUSA is a commune or “intentional community.” Evaluating a Christian commune is difficult. It isn’t exactly a church although they met as a church. It is more like a group of Christians that live with adopted family members in the same “house” or in this case a hotel JPUSA purchased and named Friendly Towers. As a family, good things happened and abuses occurred. In “Was...Was That Jesus? 23 Years in a Jesus Commune A Memoir,” Barb Pement tells her story.
