Oak Hill Church of Christ preaching minister, Randy Sterling, delivers a message on the necessity of working for God in our daily lives.

According to a recent study, of 2,000 adults polled, 32% experience anxiety, and 17% experience dread on Sundays when thinking about the coming work week. 23% said that they found it harder to enjoy Sunday because they experience so much concern for the week to come.

If you find yourself among those responding who admit their concern over the coming week, Jesus has a message for you.

As revealed in Luke, Chapter 5, Jesus simply counsels his friends to work according to their skill in order to receive the benefit. He doesn't question their ability, or condemn their trade. He doesn't insult their performance or deride their lack of social standing. He simply tells them, "do what you know how to do; just do it with faith in me."

Peter's obedient response reflects the kind of work-life Jesus has in mind for his disciples. "Jesus, I don't know why you're telling me to do this, but, I trust you, and I'll do as you ask."

God loves His children who work in any kind of job, regardless of pay or hours or education. Every job needs doing, and no work is too lowly for God to appreciate it. In fact, God has a sentimental heart for those who labor in silence, away from the crowds; he sent his angels to shepherds in fields, not princes in palaces. He sent His son to be born into the home of a skilled laborer, not a king.

If you're dreading your work week this week, consider changing your perspective through Colossians 3:23-24. Don't work for a boss; don't work for that new gadget; work for God and His kingdom. Show God the strength that comes from the hands (or the mind) of someone who loves Him.

Maybe you'll find your feelings next Sunday to be a little different.
