It’s a Thursday afternoon in Miami, and while there’s a hurricane churning in the Gulf, the weather isn’t stopping me from jumping into another Uber shift – just in time for college night. It’s one of those gloomy, slow-breeze kind of days, with Miami’s newest residents hiding indoors, convinced the storm is going to throw the city into chaos. Little do they know, the real chaos is trying to make money driving rideshare tonight – from navigating shady apartment complexes to Uber’s ridiculous $2.74 rides.

Halfway through my shift, I’m reminded just how much better gas is than charging a Tesla. I talk through my “half-tank strategy,” and yeah, it sounds complicated, but it works! Fill up the whole tank? Not worth it when you’re not even going to make it home with more than a couple of extra bucks in your pocket. Oh, and let’s not forget Lyft – sending rides I can’t even complete, because their app design makes everything 100 times harder than it needs to be. I had to cancel ride after ride because nobody knows how to use the app properly.

Also, can we talk about “GoGoGrandparent”? It's like someone created a whole service just to rope senior citizens into confusing Uber orders. Yeah, I learned about that today too. To top it off, I’ve got a dashcam sponsor on the horizon, and trust me, after dealing with a scammy passenger last week, I’m more than ready to get that camera installed. As always, these long Miami nights are unpredictable, but I’m hustling through, ranting about life, and maybe, just maybe, finding a bit of peace by the end of the shift.
