In the tale, King Shahryar, alongside his younger brother Shah Zaman, rules with fairness and justice over their respective kingdoms for twenty years. However, yearning for his brother's company, King Shahryar sends his Wazir, laden with gifts and a heartfelt letter inviting Shah Zaman to visit. Upon receiving the message, Shah Zaman expresses his willingness to comply after a brief period of hospitality for the Wazir. Though preparations are made for his journey, Shah Zaman discovers his wife in a compromising position with a black cook, which ignites his jealousy and rage. In a fit of vengeance, he murders them both and departs for his brother’s kingdom, burdened by grief and anger. When he arrives, despite the warm welcome from Shahryar, Shah Zaman conceals his inner turmoil regarding his wife's betrayal and feigns illness. Despite efforts to care for him, he remains consumed by despair, leading to a further decline in his health as he grapples with his wounded pride and heartache.
