Hardwired to Hear God’s Voice ~ Part 3

By Pastor Gary Wayne

A foundation scripture we have looked at for these messages is:
Joh.10: 27 “My sheep hear My voice.”

Text: Proverbs 2:1-6, Hebrews 5:14

Our ability to communicate with God is as natural as our ability to breathe.
The challenge is not to get God to speak, the challenge is for me to recognize the ways He is already speaking.

Graham Cooke - "When you do by intention what you've done by intuition, you achieve acceleration."
A lot of us intuitively follow the breadcrumbs God leaves us to follow, but as we exercise our senses to discern, "Oh that's God," we can accelerate in hearing.
And through exercising our senses, I think we can accelerate in our accuracy, clarity and our confidence.

What was the first question the enemy asked Eve in the garden?
"Did God really say...?" The temptation was to doubt, add confusion.
Satan regularly asks this to divert us – confuse us from believing God's voice. Too often it is VERY affective.

Robert Fulghum – “All I Really Need to Know I Learned in Kindergarten” – kids can draw anything, sing anything, then in collage that all changed.

It's not that God is not speaking, it's my expectations of what He should sound like is an obstacle in hearing. My self-doubt.

1Co 15:46 “The spiritual did not come first, but the natural, and after that the spiritual.”
What are the five senses we have in the natural? (sight, taste, touch, hearing, and smell)

Gary Chapman, book - “The Five Love Languages.”
A book designed to help us grow in our connection with our loved ones and how they communicate, and how you can interpret their communication to hear receive and understand.

Why would God build all these options to "hear" and only limit His speaking to use one or two ways?

I believe we are not designed to hear in only ONE way.
There are multiple dimensions God speaks, and I want to expand my hearing to a broadband hearing not a single channel.
We have the potential to commune with him in every possible manner.

We are not only hardwired to "hear," but we also see, sense, and perceive.
Seeing, hearing, sensing, and perception are not Spiritual gifts.
The Holy Spirit’s manifestation gifts enhance what we already have.

Just as we are created in the natural to see, feel, and perceive with our physical senses, we were created to see, feel, and perceive spiritually.
Our whole being body, soul and spirit was created – hardwired - to receive directly from God himself.

Think about the primary ways you intuitively already know how to hear.
Intentionally exercise those areas.
Then beginning asking and experimenting with other ways for you to hear God.

“Well I hear God in this way, and I'm good with that.” Good, now grow.
Heb 5:14 NIV – “…solid food is for the mature…”

In my immaturity, I can minimize my access to God's voice.

Once you know how you intuitively receive His voice, you can begin to intentionally practice recognizing His voice in that area more regularly.

Proverbs 2:1-6
"So train your heart to listen when I speak and open your spirit wide to expand your discernment— then pass it on to your sons and daughters. Yes, cry out for comprehension and intercede for insight. For if you keep seeking it like a man would seek for sterling silver, searching in hidden places for cherished treasure, then you will discover the fear of the Lord and find the true knowledge of God". Passion Translation

Frequently in multiple places in the New Testament God says:
"He who has ears to hear, let him hear!”
What does this imply?

Grahm Cooke - "We are currently moving at the speed of our obedience to God.”
God is not looking to take over, but partner with you to do His will.
