Star Wars Outlaws, Ubisoft's latest addition to the Star Wars universe, has become a focal point of controversy due to its bold narrative choices. Actress Humberly González, who plays Kay Vess, recently praised the game for its female-only point of view, highlighting the industry's deep-rooted misogyny. In an interview, González emphasized how the video game industry often excludes women, and how she's proud to lead a story that breaks this mold. She celebrated Ubisoft and Massive Entertainment for focusing on a female character in a traditionally male-dominated space like Star Wars.

González shared her personal experience as an immigrant Latina and how meaningful this role was for her, representing not just women but also people of color and immigrants. The game’s main writer, Nikki Foy, echoed this sentiment, sharing how important it was for young girls to see themselves reflected in a lead character within such an iconic franchise.

However, this move has drawn criticism from some fans, who feel that Star Wars Outlaws prioritizes a "woke" agenda over delivering the traditional Star Wars experience. Despite its ambitions, early sales numbers suggest the game isn’t resonating with audiences as strongly as expected, with sales 55% lower than Star Wars Jedi: Survivor in the UK. The conversation around the game has now become a reflection of broader industry discussions on diversity, representation, and the direction of major franchises like Star Wars.
