Episode 2545: The Ministry of Angels and the Power of Adoration - Morning Episode.mp4
Welcome back to the podcast! Today, we’re diving into the beautiful and mysterious realm of the angels God’s heavenly messengers and protectors. From the early Church Fathers to the saints throughout the centuries, angels have been seen as powerful and noble beings, created by God to guard, guide, and praise Him unceasingly. In this episode, we’ll reflect on the nature of the angels, their role in our lives, and the importance of adoration especially adoration of Our Lord in the Blessed Sacrament, as St. John Vianney so lovingly encouraged.
Our journey today will be guided by three key quotes: the words of St. John Vianney on adoring God even in the silence of the night, St. Aloysius Gonzaga’s profound insight into the nobility of angels, and Psalm 91, which assures us of the protection angels offer to those who trust in God. Together, these reflections will inspire us to deepen our devotion to God and recognize the heavenly help He has placed in our lives.
Let’s begin with the powerful words of St. John Vianney:
"When you awake in the night, transport yourself quickly in spirit before the Tabernacle, saying: 'Behold, my God, I come to adore You, to praise, thank, and love You, and to keep You company with all the Angels.'”
St. John Vianney, known for his deep devotion to the Eucharist, reminds us that we are never alone in our adoration of God. Even in the quiet of the night, when the world around us is asleep, we can join the angels in adoring our Lord. In fact, every time we enter a church or chapel, we enter into a heavenly reality. The angels are constantly present in the Tabernacle, where the real presence of Jesus in the Blessed Sacrament resides. They adore Him with perfect love and praise, and we are invited to join them in this adoration, even when we are physically apart from the church.
This practice of spiritually placing ourselves before the Tabernacle can transform our prayer lives. It teaches us that, no matter where we are, we can be with Christ. Whether we’re at home, at work, or even awake in the middle of the night, we can unite ourselves with the angels in adoration and love of God. It’s a reminder that our relationship with God is not confined to a single space or time but is meant to permeate every moment of our lives.
St. Aloysius Gonzaga offers us another glimpse into the majesty of angels, reflecting on their nature and their role in creation:
"With regard to the nobility of the angels, we need only consider that they possess a privileged place amongst all the creations of God... In addition to this perfectly illuminated light of intelligence, the angels possess a will which is completely and utterly constant, such that it may not be overcome or made to waver by any perturbation or adversity."
The angels, as purely spiritual beings, possess a nobility and perfection that is beyond our human understanding. They are free from the limitations of our physical bodies—no suffering, no aging, no death. Their minds are perfectly illuminated with the knowledge of God’s creation, and their wills are steadfast and constant, entirely devoted to serving and glorifying God.
In a sense, the angels show us what we are called to be. While we remain on this earthly pilgrimage, subject to suffering, sin, and death, we are destined for union with God. Like the angels, we are called to use our intellects to seek the truth and our wills to choose the good. Though we may falter, God has given us the example of the angels to remind us of the perfection He desires for us—a perfection that can only be found in loving and serving Him with our whole being.
Psalm 91 gives us a beautiful promise:
"For he will give his angels charge of you to guard you in all your ways. On their hands they will bear you up, lest you dash your foot against a stone." (Psalm 91:11-12)
This is one of the most comforting passages in Scripture, as it reminds us of the constant protection that God’s angels offer us. The angels are not distant, aloof beings. They are deeply involved in our lives, guiding and guarding us as we walk through the trials and dangers of this world. How often do we think about the guardian angel assigned to us at the moment of our birth? We are never alone; God has placed His angels in charge of us, to watch over us, to guide us, and to protect us.
But there is also a deeper lesson here. Just as the angels bear us up and prevent us from stumbling, we are called to walk in a way that is worthy of their protection. The angels guide us along the path to God, but we must be willing to follow their lead. They call us to avoid sin, to choose virtue, and to live a life that reflects the dignity of being a child of God.
Practical Application:
Angel Awareness:
Take a few moments each day to acknowledge the presence of your guardian angel. You can pray the traditional Guardian Angel prayer or simply ask for guidance and protection. Cultivate a deeper awareness of their constant presence in your life, especially in moments of temptation or trial.
Spiritual Adoration:
Whenever you find yourself awake at night or unable to physically visit a church, follow the advice of St. John Vianney. Place yourself spiritually before the Tabernacle and join the angels in adoration of our Lord. This simple act of devotion can bring great peace and closeness to God, even in the midst of daily distractions.
Seek Silence to Hear God:
In a world full of noise and distractions, strive to find moments of silence where you can listen to God. The angels adore Him in perfect silence and contemplation. In these moments of quiet, you allow yourself to be more open to the gentle voice of God, who often speaks in stillness.
Conclusion:
In today’s episode, we’ve explored the profound connection between our spiritual lives and the ministry of angels. St. John Vianney encourages us to join the angels in constant adoration, and St. Aloysius Gonzaga reminds us of the nobility and constancy of these heavenly beings. Psalm 91 assures us of the angels' protective care over our lives.
As we go forward, let us strive to live in the awareness of the angels’ presence and protection, joining them in adoration of God, and seeking their guidance as we walk the path of holiness. By doing so, we open ourselves more fully to the grace of God and live as His beloved children, always guarded by His heavenly messengers.
Closing Prayer:
Heavenly Father,
We thank You for the gift of the angels, who guide and protect us on our journey toward You. Help us to live in constant awareness of their presence and to join them in adoring You, especially in the Blessed Sacrament. Grant us the grace to seek moments of silence, where we can hear Your voice more clearly, and to follow the path of holiness to which You call us. May we trust in Your angels' protection and walk confidently in Your ways, knowing that You guard us at every step.
We ask this through Jesus Christ, our Lord, who lives and reigns with You and the Holy Spirit, one God, forever and ever. Amen.
Thank you for listening today! May the angels guide and protect you in all your ways. Until next time, may God bless you abundantly.
