Putin's Nuclear Threats Backfire as the West Responds with Laughter
Instead of being afraid of Russia's new nuclear threats, the West has started to openly mock Vladimir Putin. German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius responded boldly and ironically to Russia's announced change in nuclear doctrine, which Putin read out in front of his Security Council. Pistorius even said that Putin's threats were not worth responding to. Russian economic analyst Anatoly Nesmiyan stressed that this open mockery is very detrimental to Putin, because it makes him no longer taken seriously by his opponents. According to him, the most painful thing for Putin is when his enemies no longer see him as an important figure in the political process, but rather as a mentally unstable figure. Putin's change in Russia's nuclear doctrine is seen as an attempt to justify the use of nuclear weapons in the war in Ukraine, but instead creates a wave of ridicule and skepticism in the West.
