Creating a Bond With Your Kids

Creating a strong bond with your children is rooted in promoting brain health and fostering attachment. The key isn't doing everything for them, but rather spending quality time together. In our constantly distracted society, where we're often glued to our phones, it's crucial to put them aside and truly listen.

One powerful exercise is what I call "special time." It involves dedicating 20 minutes each day to your child, engaging in an activity of their choice. During this time, avoid giving commands, asking questions, or providing directions. Simply be present in their space.

For a 14-month-old, this might mean sitting on the floor and playing with blocks together. The most important aspect is being an attentive listener. Many parents tend to talk excessively, often speaking over their children instead of truly hearing them.

By implementing this special time and focusing on listening, you'll likely notice your bond with your child strengthening. The more connected and heard they feel, the more secure their attachment becomes.
