Homework Part 5: Table Games – From Logs to Legs

The chainsaw saga continues, but now it’s time to start putting these slabs to use. After learning on the fly while cutting and milling slabs, we’re shifting gears to start the actual build. With some freshly cut oak slabs and a solid plan in place, I’m working on crafting the perfect custom coffee table for our homestead.

We’re talking 20-inch legs, sturdy enough to hold anything, a two-tiered design for extra storage, and some thick slabs for the top that could hold up an airplane. But first, I’ve got to deal with the reality of rough-cut wood, mismatched saws, and the fun challenge of making it all work.

With every piece of wood that gets cut, I’m learning more about the process of homesteading projects and what it takes to turn raw materials into something we can actually use. And trust me, when you’ve got the right tools (and a bit of trial and error), the sky’s the limit.

This coffee table is going to be more than just a piece of furniture—it’s a project of passion, sweat, and a lot of sawdust. So stay tuned as I figure out how to get the legs and top just right, and maybe even add a few extra features to make this a centerpiece for our homestead living.

Curious how this whole build turns out? Watch the full journey as we continue to create something special out of what nature gave us.
