Located in the shadow of the snow-covered Caucasus mountains, amidst Georgia's wide plains, was the once-traditional farm of Malika Machalikashvili, situated in Pankisi Gorge. She planted vegetables, kept chickens and other livestock, and had a hazelnut grove. She used to deliver the produce to the nearby market or, on occasion, to the market in Tbilisi, the nation's capital. Perhaps the most innovative modification to date is that she now uses a smartphone to market her produce in addition to the additional improvements, including a greenhouse and contemporary irrigation.
Malika has been participating in FAO trainings for the past three years, which are funded by the European Union.
