This is a new one for me. I have tried quite a few flashlights from VASTFIRE but this one is designed to clip onto a gun or bow for 'Coyote Coon Bobcat Raccoon Varmint Rabbit Night Hunting'. That said, it could also be clipped to the handlebars of your bike or elsewhere for more benign uses.
I received the 178 x 42 x 25 mm 247g flashlight in a plain plastic storage case with no external packaging. Inside was the torch itself, two 18650 rechargeable Batteries, an external Battery Charger, Rail and Scope mounts, a Pressure Trigger Switch and Red, Green, and White LEDs. No user guide was included, which was a pity. Build quality, as is always with VASTFIRE is first rate, with the flashlight made from heavy duty aluminium alloy and everything else equally robust and well made.
This set consists of a rather basic IPX4 waterproof torch with three interchangeable screw-in coloured LEDs - white, green and red - together with two different types of mounts to secure the torch to a rifle, bow or other tubular object. Also included is a pressure switch which replaces the end cap off/on button with a soft touch switch which has the option to remain on only while the button is depressed. The flashlight is powered by a single 18650 Lithium Polymer battery which is recharged through the supplied external charging unit, there is no charging port on the torch itself. The inclusion of a spare battery in the kit is a useful bonus. Incidentally, when first using the torch be sure to remove the paper cap covering the battery terminal inside the case.
When used as a regular torch it is not too exciting. The 1000 Lumen power output is relatively low and there is a single light level with no option for dimming or strobing. However this torch comes into it own when used as it is designed to be with the coloured LEDs - these are actual LEDS and not just filters or gels. The three screw-in 55 x 42 mm LED modules operate in the following ranges with a maximum light throw of 320m (depending on the colour):
Green LED (555 nm) 350 yards (2.5 hours)
Red LED (660 nm) 200 yards (5 hours)
White LED ( 6000K) 350 yards (3.5 hours)
Each beam features a clearly defined central hotspot to aid aiming.
The two included scope mounts seem fine. One is a rather simple single screw unit, probably designed for bow or general use and fits 20mm Picatinny/Weaver rails (whatever they are). The other is made from metal and features a quick-release mount best suited for use on a hunting rifle and will work with 1inch to 30mm scopes.
Here in the UK with the use of firearms severely restricted and few 'Coyote Coon Bobcat Raccoon Varmints' to hunt the appeal of this flashlight may be limited but naturalists and wildlife enthusiasts may still find a use for it and for them, the attractive $39.99 price may well add to the attraction.
