Why the KJV Translators Chose Baptize Instead of Immerse

When the translators of the King James Version (KJV) completed their monumental work in 1611, they made a deliberate choice regarding certain key terms, one of which was the word *baptizo*. Rather than translating this Greek word as "immerse," which reflects its literal meaning, the translators chose to transliterate it into English as "baptize."
