Why the KJV Translators Chose Baptize Instead of Immerse

When the translators of the King James Version (KJV) completed their monumental work in 1611, they made a deliberate choice regarding certain key terms, one of which was the word *baptizo*. Rather than translating this Greek word as "immerse," which reflects its literal meaning, the translators chose to transliterate it into English as "baptize." This decision was rooted not in avoiding controversy, but in the desire to preserve the theological depth and gospel truth embedded in the term.
