I wasn’t expecting to enjoy HBO’s The Penguin, but after watching episode one, I’m in for the long haul, as everything from the writing to the cast to the set design is absolute perfection. For the first time in many years, I’m genuinely looking forward to the remaining episodes of a series.

Colin Farrell is simply marvellous as the Penguin; he’s truly transformed himself. Cristin Milioti delivers a phenomenal performance as Sofia Falcone – a female villain I’m genuinely invested in, which is a rarity these days, given how the entertainment industry often struggles to write compelling female characters, whether hero or villain. Clancy Brown is a welcome surprise and has only heightened my excitement for what's to come.
