In 2019, police responded to a 911 call to find Hazel unresponsive in her stepmother’s apartment. Kamee Dixon, her father’s girlfriend, claimed Hazel choked on food. But when she arrived at the hospital, doctors discovered a whole different story—Hazel had severe brain injuries, hypothermia, and multiple bruises. She was airlifted to a trauma center, but it was too late. After her death, doctors found evidence of repeated abuse broken bones, cigarette burns, and untreated injuries. Hazel was just three years old. Her aunt Ashlee now fights to make sure her story isn’t forgotten, and that no other child has to go through what Hazel did.
