You may have heard that, "comparison is the thief of joy", and that's probably true for people in general. But when we're depressed, it's even worse than that because first of all, comparing yourself to others when you're depressed, you already have an inbuilt disadvantage.💙

If they aren't struggling with depression, then their life is probably chugging along quite normally. You're going to look like you're struggling, it's going to put you at a disadvantage with that comparison.💙

In addition to that, depression has us see the world through a negative lens. So we've got a negative perspective of ourselves before we start. And then if we have a comparison with someone who looks like they're doing better than us, we're more likely to take that on board and beat ourselves up.💙

So comparison is the thief of joy, and that's for even people who aren't struggling with depression. For people who are struggling with depression, it's probably a good idea to completely stay away from trying to compare yourselves to others.💙
