During an appearance on Fox News' "The Ingraham Angle" with Laura Ingraham, Florida Governor Ron DeSantis accused the federal government of obstructing the state's investigation into the recent second assassination attempt on former President Donald Trump.

"Our investigators were turned away just trying to get to the fence line outside Trump International Golf Club in West Palm Beach," DeSantis told Ingraham.

When asked whether federal agents were cooperating with the state's investigation into the would-be assassin, Ryan Routh, DeSantis bluntly responded, "No, they're not being cooperative. I believe they've taken the stance that they don't want Florida involved in this. But the fact is, multiple violations of Florida law occurred across different jurisdictions, so we have to investigate."

DeSantis had previously announced plans to launch a state-level criminal investigation into the assassination attempt. He emphasized that state prosecutors would pursue the most serious charges possible under Florida law, including attempted murder. "We have a strong interest in holding this suspect accountable," DeSantis told reporters.

Meanwhile, Routh has been formally charged with the attempted assassination of Trump following the incident on September 15th at Trump's golf club. The indictment was handed down by a Miami grand jury on September 24th.

According to authorities, Routh waited near the golf course for almost 12 hours while the former president was playing. A Secret Service agent conducting a security sweep spotted the barrel of a rifle pointing toward the course, leading the agent to fire. Routh fled the scene but was later captured on a nearby interstate. The attempted assassination charge could result in a life sentence.

This wasn't the only recent threat to Trump’s life. In July, Trump narrowly escaped another assassination attempt at a campaign rally in Pennsylvania when a bullet fired by Thomas Matthew Crooks grazed his ear, leaving one attendee dead and two others injured. Crooks was shot and killed by a sniper.

On his social media platform, Truth Social, Trump expressed frustration with the federal investigation, calling for DeSantis to take over Routh's prosecution, accusing the Department of Justice (DOJ) and the FBI of going easy on the suspect.

"Our justice system is corrupt and discredited," Trump wrote. "Let Florida handle the case."

Trump alleged that the DOJ and FBI were downplaying the charges against Routh, referring to the weapons charges filed against the suspect as a "slap on the wrist." He further claimed that both agencies had a "conflict of interest" due to their long-standing pursuit of legal cases against him.

"It's very difficult to trust the Biden/Harris DOJ and FBI to investigate the assassination attempts without bias, given the ongoing election interference and the fake cases they've brought against me," Trump stated. He also criticized FBI Director Christopher Wray for initially downplaying the first assassination attempt in Pennsylvania, falsely claiming it might not have been a bullet.

"If the DOJ and FBI can't do their job without bias, DeSantis and Florida are ready to lead the investigation and prosecution," Trump concluded.
