"THE BIG PICTURE" salutes the Red Cross -- "You and Yours" can be summed up as a salute from the Army's weekly television series, THE BIG PICTURE, to an organization of more than 40 million members -- the American Red Cross. Beginning with a few simple doughnut wagons and field kitchens, the American society of this international movement has grown until it is today the principle channel through which men and women of all walks of life give something of themselves for the sake of others. For this THE BIG PICTURE release, the Army joined forces with the Red Cross to make this picture for television to coincide with this year's Red Cross Campaign. Some 380 television stations in this country and overseas will receive this program (TV-355) by the first week in March for immediate programming.
From the colorful and dramatic history of the Red Cross, the Army has culled a most ambitious documentary, much of it filmed in recent months, depicting the role this organization plays in following the American soldier to remote corners of the world. "You and Yours" is the kind of story that will have universal appeal and interest to all citizens. In a special message, the President of the American National Red Cross, General Alfred M. Gruenther, sums up the Red Cross program as it affects every American.
