Spiritual Warfare Temptation E2

On today's episode, Jana and Reata continue their Spiritual Warfare series by diving into temptation. Throughout the discussion, they examine the temptation of Christ in the book of Luke; exploring questions such as, why does Satan use these three temptations in this order, and why does he quote Psalm 91 to tempt Jesus? They also contemplate how does this scriptural example relate to us today, and what can we learn from Jesus' response?

Reata highlights how each of the three temptations used against Jesus correspond to the temptations and struggles the Israelites experienced and failed in the book of Exodus. They ruminate on Jesus' responses to each temptation and illuminate the pattern in which Jesus always rebuked the enemy's lies with the truth (God's written word). Even when Satan used scripture to tempt Jesus, Jesus displayed an ability to discern the truth from scripture taken out of context and thus not fall for Satan's fallacy.

In concluding remarks, Reata leaves us with the idea that in temptation we can see the enemy, ourselves and God. Do not be deceived by the enemy. Additionally, do not be self deceived by your desires and cares of this world. Instead, lean on the understanding grace of God to overcome temptation and the forces of darkness.

Jana leaves the listeners with some questions to ponder in preparation for next week's episode and the continuation of the "temptation" topic.Questions to Ponder: 1) What are the most common temptations you face? 2) Where do you face the most temptation? 3) When do you face the most temptation? 4) Who are you with when you face temptation? 5) How do you feel when you face temptation?
Tangible Takeaway:It is not a sin to be tempted. Jesus was tempted and never sinned.
