Richardson police chase ends in Dallas after murder suspect shoots himself.

On September 16, 2024, at 3:35 p.m., a Richardson Fire Department arson investigator, who is a sworn peace officer, notified the Richardson Police Department he observed a known vehicle connected to a homicide in Kaufman County. Officers attempted to stop the vehicle in the 500 block of Centennial Boulevard in Richardson, but the driver refused to pull over and immediately accelerated in an attempt to evade. Officers pursued the vehicle into the city of Dallas, when the driver began shooting at Richardson Police officers from the moving vehicle in the 13600 block of Esperanza Drive in Dallas. One Richardson Police Department officer returned fire during the pursuit.

The vehicle came to a stop in the southbound Frontage Road of the 13100 block of North Central Expressway in Dallas. Officers observed three occupants (ages 5, 15, and 17) in the backseat, who exited the vehicle physically unharmed.

Richardson police officers deployed a drone and ballistic shields to safely approach the vehicle and discovered the male driver had a self-inflicted gunshot wound and the front female passenger had multiple gunshot wounds, later determined to be inflicted by the male driver.

Richardson police officers and the arson investigator provided emergency medical assistance to the driver and passenger. Dallas Fire Rescue responded to the scene and pronounced the male driver deceased. The female passenger was transported to Medical City of Dallas in critical condition. The officer involved in the shooting was not injured.
