Can you Catch the nanoparticles being made by the Laser?

This video is a wonderful example of the process we are calling "Electron Excitation" method for removing material. This process happens when there is not enough heat for laser ablation to take place. In this case, Silicon's melting point is 1414°C. The 5 watt laser can only reach about 1000°C. However the photon energy from the light of the laser gives so much energy to the outer electrons that they fly away, removing the atom. Because silicon is highly reflective, we can see these particles as they flare up and leave the material.
