Raimondo’s Disturbing Remarks: Is the Left Targeting Trump?

Commerce Secretary Gina Raimondo urged Democrats to permanently defeat former President Donald Trump in the upcoming election. "How did we get here? Let’s put an end to this for good," Raimondo said during an interview with MSNBC. "We have the solution, a remarkably talented, sincere, and pragmatic candidate. Let’s just get it done."

Raimondo’s remarks come across as especially insensitive given that just last week, a disturbed individual, Ryan Routh, attempted to assassinate Trump at his Florida golf club—marking the second attempt in two months. Despite this, The New York Times described Routh as a “crusader for causes large and small.”

In addition, Trump revealed on X that Iran-backed assassination teams are targeting him, stating: “Big threats on my life by Iran. The entire U.S. military is watching and waiting... I'm surrounded by more men, guns, and weapons than ever before.” Trump also thanked Congress for its bipartisan approval of increased Secret Service funding, emphasizing that any attack on a former president is a grave mistake for the perpetrator.

Raimondo’s rhetoric mirrors similar statements made by Democratic politicians and commentators, such as Rep. Dan Goldman (D-N.Y.) calling for Trump to be "eliminated" and former CIA officer Phil Mudd, who said on CNN that “the government’s gonna kill this guy.”

Earlier today, President Joe Biden made a swatting gesture during an appearance on *The View* after Whoopi Goldberg likened Trump to a bug. Similarly, in 2018, Vice President Kamala Harris joked on *The Ellen DeGeneres Show* about killing Trump.

Years of inflammatory rhetoric may explain why 28% of Democrats surveyed last week said they believe America would be better off if Trump were assassinated, while another 25% were unsure. Despite knowing the potential consequences, Democrats continue with such dangerous and reckless language, seemingly unconcerned with the real-life attempts on Trump's life that have already taken place.
