*First Ever Spacewalk by Private Astronauts
A historic milestone has been achieved with the successful completion of the first-ever spacewalk by commercial, non-government astronauts. Launched aboard a SpaceX Dragon capsule from the Kennedy Space Centre, the mission aimed to monitor radiation exposure levels. The crew performed a series of mobility tests on SpaceX's newly designed EVA suits, reaching an altitude of 738 kilometres, the furthest humans have travelled from Earth since the Apollo missions.
*Boeing Starliner Returns Safely to Earth
Boeing's trouble-plagued Starliner spacecraft has returned to Earth, landing unmanned at the White Sands Missile Range in New Mexico. The decision to return without a crew was due to ongoing safety concerns, including failures in the orbital manoeuvring system thrusters and helium leaks. The spacecraft's landing follows a series of setbacks and tests, including a powerful breakout burn to clear it from the International Space Station.
*Asteroid Creates Spectacular Fireball Over the Philippines
Residents in the Philippines witnessed a stunning celestial event as a small asteroid entered Earth's atmosphere, creating a bright green fireball. The asteroid, designated 2024 RW1, was discovered just 8 hours before its atmospheric entry. Although it caused no harm, the event illuminated the skies above the western Pacific Ocean, adding another entry to the rare instances of asteroids detected before impact.
