Enigma is a German musical project founded in 1990 by Romanian-German musician and producer Michael Cretu. Cretu had released several solo records, collaborated with various artists, and produced albums for his then-wife, German pop singer Sandra, before he conceived the idea of a new-age, worldbeat project. Since releasing its groundbreaking 1990 debut with the hit single Sadeness (Part I) Enigma have become one of electronic music’s most influential entities. Its success continued with the massive single Return to Innocence of its 1993 album, The Cross of Changes. Over the course of seven releases Enigma has sold a total of 70 million-plus copies, scored 60 number ones worldwide and achieved more than 100 platinum certifications around the globe. ABOUT THIS VIDEO: Era is a new-age music project by French composer Eric Lévi. Some of the lyrics were written by Guy Protheroe in an imaginary language similar to Latin, but deliberately devoid of any exact meaning. Musically, the project blends Gregorian chants with modern elements and genres, especially rock, pop and electronic music. ABOUT THE MUSIC: This music derives from Mozart's unfinished Requiem in D minor. In early July of 1791, a stranger visited the Austrian composer, bearing a commission for a Requiem from an anonymous patron. At the time, Mozart was working tirelessly to complete two operas, The Magic Flute and La Clemenza di Tito. By the time he turned his attention to the Requiem the following September, his health was in terminal decline. He worked obsessively with the haunting premonition, “I fear that I am writing a Requiem for myself.” On 5 December 1791, the composer Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart died at his home in Vienna, Austria at the age of 35. ABOUT THIS VIDEO: This song finds Enya musing on the cycle of the universe and how change affects everything. Her producer Nicky Ryan recalled: "It began when, after writing the melody line, Enya started humming a small part of the melody." The title refers to the sound of our early universe.
