"Every day they save lives. Every day they fight for theirs." Apple TV has revealed the official trailer for their upcoming streaming series called Midnight Family, a fictionalized adaptation of an award-winning documentary (from 2019) about a real family in Mexico City. The series debuts in late September. Marigaby is a medical student by day—and by night, she saves lives with her family in Mexico City's high-stakes biz of private ambulances. As pressure from both worlds threatens to drag her down, Marigaby will do whatever it takes to stay afloat. Inspired by the award-winning documentary film of the same name, Midnight Family follows Marigaby Tamayo, an ambitious and gifted medical student by day, who spends her nights saving lives throughout a sprawling, contrasted and fascinating Mexico City aboard her family’s privately owned ambulance. Along with her father Ramón and her siblings Marcus and Julito, Marigaby serves a population of millions by tackling extreme medical emergencies to make a living. Starring Joaquín Cosío, Renata Vaca, Sergio Bautista, & Diego Calva. As a fan of the original doc, I hope this series turns out great, too.

What is 'Midnight Family' Based On?

Midnight Family is inspired by the award-winning documentary of the same name and centers on the Tamayo family, who operate a privately owned ambulance service in Mexico City. Marigaby Tamayo, played by Vaca, is an ambitious medical student who, along with her father Ramón (Cosío) and brothers Marcus (Calva) and Julito (Bautista), navigates the chaotic and often perilous world of emergency medical care in one of the world’s most densely populated cities.

The series explores the stark contrasts of Mexico City, where wealth and poverty coexist in sharp relief, and where the Tamayo family must tackle extreme medical emergencies to survive. As they race through the night saving lives, the family confronts not only the physical dangers of their work but also the moral and emotional challenges that come with it.

Midnight Family is produced by Fremantle and Fabula, the production company behind the Oscar-winning film A Fantastic Woman. The series is produced by Juan de Dios Larraín and Pablo Larraín, with Ángela Poblete and Mariane Hartard also serving as executive producers. Natalia Beristáin, who previously directed episodes of the Apple Original series The Mosquito Coast, returns to Apple TV+ to lead this project.

Be sure to catch the premiere on Apple TV+ on September 25, 2024, and tune in every Wednesday for new episodes through November 20, 2024.
The first trailer for the Spanish-language Apple TV+ series Familia de medianoche (Midnight Family) made its online debut Tuesday (August 20) morning, and viewers are likely to feel an adrenaline rush from many of the scenes.

It’s inspired by the 2019 award-winning documentary of the same name where the Ochoa family runs a private ambulance, competing with other for-profit EMTs for patients in need of urgent help. It was directed by Luke Lorentzen and focused on three family members; Juan, Fer, and Josue. As the trailer informs viewers, there are only about 100 government owned ambulances to take care of a population of 10 million.

Midnight Family stars Renata Vaca (Saw X) as Marigaby Tamayo, a medical student who spends her nights saving lives across the city with her father Ramón (Joaquín Cosio) and siblings Marcus (Diego Calva) and Julito (Sergio Bautista). It has a 10-episode run and the names have been changed.

In the trailer, the family is seen handling all types of physical injuries stemming from a lucha libre match that gets out of hand, car accidents, and even an earthquake. The family must also face their own challenges. Ramón is having his own health problems and Marigaby has been told by her medical school that she can’t practice medicine as an undergraduate. Will she quit the family business or risk her education?

Other actors who make appearances on the series include Óscar Jaenada (Cantinflas), José María de Tavira (The Candidate), Itzan Escamilla (Élite), Mariana Gómez (The Queen of Flow), Dolores Heredia (Capadocia) and Oscar nominee Yalitza Aparicio (Roma), who shows up in the trailer as a hospital patient.

The first two episodes of Midnight Family air on September 25, 2024. New episodes follow every Wednesday through November 20, 2024.

Today, the streaming service unveiled the trailer for Midnight Family, which launches with two episodes on Wednesday, September 25, 2024, followed by one new episode every Wednesday through November 20, 2024.

Inspired by the documentary of the same name, Midnight Family follows Marigaby Tamayo (Renata Vaca), an ambitious and gifted medical student by day, who per the official logline “spends her nights saving lives throughout a sprawling, contrasted and fascinating Mexico City aboard her family’s privately owned ambulance. Along with her father Ramón ( Joaquín Cosío) and her siblings Marcus (Diego Calva) and Julito (Sergio Bautista), Marigaby serves a population of millions by tackling extreme medical emergencies to make a living.”
