Mini-Moon Incoming! Earth’s Second Moon Explained

Earth will have a temporary second moon this year. An asteroid named 2024 PT5 will orbit Earth from September 29 to November 25, resulting in a minimoon phenomenon. NASA's Asteroid Terrestrial-impact Last Alert System detected this space rock in South Africa. It will orbit our planet for 56.6 days before returning to the sun's orbit. This near-earth object (NEO) will complete multiple orbits around Earth, with its closest approach on January 9, 2025. When is the next visit? Only in 2055!
