Richardson, Texas — On August 25, 2024 at 4:11 a.m., Richardson Police Officers responded to a residence in the 1500 block of Fair Oaks Dr. in response to a domestic violence incident in-progress. The victim reported that she had been assaulted by her boyfriend, 37-year-old Emmanuel Blanco Cruz, who was armed with a weapon. Upon arrival, the first officer on the scene found Cruz in the garage, wielding a large knife. Despite repeated, loud verbal commands to drop the weapon, Cruz ignored these instructions. He exited the garage, moved through the backyard, towards the officer, causing her to retreat backwards away from the approaching suspect. Cruz made his way to a parked pickup truck in the rear driveway, where he reached inside, then suddenly turned toward the officer, brandishing the knife in threatening manner. In response, the officer discharged her firearm once, hitting Cruz in the upper body. Emergency medical assistance was provided by officers until paramedics arrived and transported Cruz to the hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.
