Brooklyn Park, Minnesota — On June 23, 2024 at 3:51a.m., the Brooklyn Park Police Department responded to a 7-month-old baby not breathing. Officers attempted life saving first aid however the baby did not survive. A death investigation commenced at the home. While officers were on scene of a death investigation, the father of the deceased, 24-year-old Oronde Neal Reese, without warning, locked himself in a bedroom. A male family member forced the door open and entered the room while alerting officers that there was a gun in the bedroom with Reese. Several officers entered the room and attempted to physically contain Reese, who was now rummaging through items in a closet. Reese then brandished a firearm and racked a round into the chamber.

A chaotic physical altercation ensued while an officer was attempting to gain control of Reese. Reese turned towards the officers in the room, at which time a second officer observed a firearm in Reese's hand. That officer discharged his service weapon, striking Reese, causing him to drop the gun. Officers on scene performed life saving first aid to Reese who survived the incident. Brooklyn Park PD says that Officer Momodou Dibba has been cleared of wrongdoing in its own internal investigation and returned to active duty as of Aug. 22. However, the incident remains under investigation by the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension (BCA), which will forward its findings to the Hennepin County Attorney's Office. The Hennepin County Sheriff’s Office meanwhile continues to investigate the death of the baby.
