Harris County Deputy Shoots Suspect Armed With Pellet Gun

Houston, Texas — On July 4, 2024, at approximately 1:55 p.m., Harris County Sheriff's Office deputies were dispatched to the 1400 block of FM 1960 West in North Harris County regarding a man pointing a gun at vehicles and people in the area. Multiple calls were received by the Emergency Dispatch Center. Upon arrival, deputies observed the suspect's vehicle parked in front of the store and a man matching the description of the suspect.

One deputy went inside the store and saw the suspect, later identified as 47-year-old Juan Perez, standing in line with a handgun inside his waistband. The deputy told him to raise his hands. Perez pulled out the handgun from his waistband. The deputy discharged his weapon striking Perez. Deputies detained Perez and immediately began life saving efforts. Emergency Medical Services transported Perez to a local hospital with non-life threatening injuries. Homicide Investigators conducted the investigation and revealed the handgun to be a pellet gun. Juan Perez was charged with two counts of Aggravated Assault and Aggravated Assault on a Public Servant.
