If you do need a blood transfusion, your hemoglobin is checked so if you are really low, a blood transfusion would be needed. What they check for not only your blood type, but your type-in-cross aka antibodies. If both your antibodies and blood type match, then it's blood donate time. The hardest blood types to type-in-cross is B+ and AB-. Just FYI.
