Camp Alunite (Texas Acres, Klinger Spring) of 1908. This was the first scientific gold prospect in Nevada. Trust the science... not! Although his prospecting here cost him his fortune he got it back in the oil fields of Texas, hence Texas Acres. "The total of Hill's writing represents one of the most distinquished series of North American Geology ever struck off from the brain of man"... some say.

Heat and lack of water hampered mining and prospecting efforts, and many miners ceased activity during the hot summer months. A newspaper report optimistically predicted plenty of activity in the fall (LVA 1906c). A few hardy souls did continue working during the summer, such as the three miners working on the Bishop, Colson, and Jefferson claims, that had " ... plenty of water in their cement cistern".

Ah, so the mystery cement tank was this cistern capturing rain runoff from the gully. And always do your litature search AFTER going into the field to verify one's stupid ideas later.

Also, gold associated with alunite's volitol gas deposition improves with depth so they probably never dug deep enough?
