Trump's Vaping Promise: Will He Save It

Former President Donald Trump stated on Friday that he would "save vaping" if reelected, despite his administration implementing a partial ban on flavored e-cigarettes in 2020.

“I saved flavored vaping in 2019, and it helped many people quit smoking. I raised the age to 21, keeping it out of the hands of ‘kids,’” Trump wrote on Truth Social.

He added, “I’ll save vaping again!”

Without evidence, Trump also claimed that “Kamala and Joe want to ban everything, hurting small businesses across the country.” However, neither President Joe Biden nor Vice President Kamala Harris have proposed a vaping ban.

For context: In 2019, Trump initially suggested banning flavored e-cigarettes due to rising youth vaping rates but later scaled back, supporting a partial ban instead.

In 2020, the FDA introduced a policy to remove most flavors of cartridge-based e-cigarettes from the market. This did not apply to flavored products for open tank systems sold in vape shops. Many flavored products remain available as the FDA reviews marketing applications.

Before this, Trump's administration raised the legal tobacco purchasing age from 18 to 21.
