Global Outcry: China and Europe Condemn Atrocities in Lebanon's Terror Attacks
China has not underestimated the magnitude of the terror attacks in Lebanon, stating, "The explosions resulted in thousands of civilian casualties. China expresses deep shock and serious concern regarding this situation. Innocent children playing outside lost their eyesight, mothers shopping in supermarkets suffered severe injuries, and doctors heading to work were critically harmed. These and other distressing scenes are unimaginably tragic. The use of remotely detonated communication devices in indiscriminate assaults has resulted in mass civilian casualties and widespread panic. Such actions are unprecedented in history. This is unequivocally a severe violation of a nation's sovereignty and security, as well as a blatant infringement of international law, particularly international humanitarian law. This act demonstrates an unconscionable disregard for human life. The brutality and atrocity of these attacks warrant the strongest condemnation."
In the Security Council meeting, European states reacted as follows:
- The EU foreign affairs chief condemned the recent attacks in Lebanon and echoed the UN Human Rights Chief @Volker_Turk's call for an independent investigation.
- Belgium expressed strong condemnation of the large-scale terror attacks in Lebanon and Syria, voicing deep concern over increasing tensions in the border region.
- Switzerland conveyed its deep concern following the recent explosions.
- Hungary's government spokesman asserted that "PAGERS USED IN MASS DETONATIONS IN LEBANON WERE NEVER IN HUNGARY."
- France highlighted its concern that the recent security events in Lebanon contribute to a dangerous escalation of tensions in the region, stating, "In this confusion and sorrow, France stands by your side."
- Slovenia condemned the series of explosions in Lebanon and Syria.
- Norway remarked, "The Middle East is on the brink," extending heartfelt sympathy to civilians in Lebanon.
- Austria expressed alarm over the recent developments in Lebanon.
- Germany advised all parties to avoid further escalation in the Middle East.
- Spain's government condemned the electronic attacks in Lebanon on September 17 and 18, which resulted in numerous casualties among civilians.
- Finland strongly urged all sides to exercise restraint and avoid escalating tensions in the Middle East.
Other European nations have yet to comment on the attacks on X.
