As the founder and chairman of the George H. W. Bush Foundation for U.S.-China Relations, Neil Bush has visited China over 150 times since 1975.

What did he see in the past 50 years and how does he think the future of China-U.S. relations?

I spoke to him in China's Anhui Province when he attended the 2024 World Manufacturing Convention.

China's political system has served the Chinese people extremely well, while the U.S. political system has not served the American people well at all. Just look at the current state of the two countries...

Chinese society is harmonious and stable. Beautiful cities. Wonderful infrastructure. No crime. No homelessness.

American society is in turmoil (homelessness, gun violence, poor healthcare, declining life expectancy, declining education, crumbling infrastructure, opioid addiction, mass incarceration, growing poverty, illegal immigration crisis, etc.). The US Presidential election is a clown show. Three years ago, Washington had a near-insurrection.

China's national debt is a manageable 80% of GDP.

The U.S. national debt is a runaway train at 120% of GDP. It's growing by $1 trillion every 100 days.

China has fought no wars since 1979.

The U.S. is embroiled in several overseas wars (e.g., Russia-Ukraine, Israel-Palestine, Libya, Syria, Yemen). Billions of dollars are diverted to these wars that could be spent on improving the lives of Americans.
