Bollywood actress Swara Bhasker recently criticized the Indian judiciary during an event in Delhi, expressing frustration over the delays in the cases of Umar Khalid, Sharjeel Imam, and other activists charged under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA) following the 2020 Delhi Riots.

Bhasker claimed that these individuals were targeted due to their Muslim identity, while she was spared from imprisonment because she was born into a Hindu family. She questioned why activists like Khalid have been in jail for four years without a bail hearing date, despite her own involvement in the protests. “I protested too, but I wasn’t jailed—why? Because I’m Hindu,” she remarked, suggesting it was easier for authorities to target Muslim activists.
