EU to loan Ukraine up to $39 bln, funded by Russian assets

The European Commission proposed the loan on Friday (September 20) to help Ukraine cover its increased needs after Russian destruction of its infrastructure. Announced by Commission President Ursula von der Leyen on a visit to Kyiv, it is part of a wider plan among G7 nations to raise funds using proceeds from Russian assets frozen to sanction Moscow for invading its neighbor.
