** In this blues song, "Mighty Man Blues," we dive deep into the powerful message of Psalm 52, written by King David. David wrote this psalm as a response to the betrayal of Doeg the Edomite, who informed King Saul about David's whereabouts, leading to a brutal massacre of the priests at Nob. Through this psalm, David contrasts the deceitfulness of the wicked with the unwavering love and justice of God. It’s a reflection of trust in God’s ultimate judgment and the enduring strength found in His love.

This blues song brings the ancient text of Psalm 52 to life, blending the depth of the Bible’s words with the soulful tones of the blues.

Original Text from the World English Bible (WEB):

Psalm 52
For the Chief Musician. A contemplation by David, when Doeg the Edomite came and told Saul, “David has come to Ahimelech’s house.”

1 Why do you boast of mischief, mighty man?
God’s loving kindness endures continually.

2 Your tongue plots destruction,
like a sharp razor, working deceitfully.

3 You love evil more than good,
lying rather than speaking the truth. Selah.

4 You love all devouring words,
you deceitful tongue.

5 God will likewise destroy you forever.
He will take you up and pluck you out of your tent,
and root you out of the land of the living. Selah.

6 The righteous also will see it, and fear,
and laugh at him, saying,

7 “Behold, this is the man who didn’t make God his strength,
but trusted in the abundance of his riches,
and strengthened himself in his wickedness.”

8 But as for me, I am like a green olive tree in God’s house.
I trust in God’s loving kindness forever and ever.

9 I will give you thanks forever, because you have done it.
I will hope in your name, for it is good,
in the presence of your saints.

Lyrics to "Mighty Man Blues":

(Verse 1)
Why you boast, mighty man, in all your lies?
Why you boast, mighty man, in your wicked disguise?
Your tongue’s like a razor, cuttin' deep and wide,
But God’s love’s here to stay, yeah, it won’t hide.

(Chorus)
You love evil more than good, that’s the truth.
But God’s gonna root you out, gonna cut you loose.
You trust in riches, but that won’t last,
God’s justice is comin’, comin’ fast.

(Verse 2)
You plot destruction, your heart’s full of deceit,
Every word you speak, man, is just a trick or a cheat.
God’s gonna pluck you out, like a weed from the land,
Won’t be long before He takes you by the hand.

(Chorus)
You love evil more than good, that’s the truth.
But God’s gonna root you out, gonna cut you loose.
You trust in riches, but that won’t last,
God’s justice is comin’, comin’ fast.

(Bridge)
But I stand like an olive tree, in God's holy place,
I trust in His love, I rest in His grace.
I’ll give thanks forever, in the presence of the saints,
His name is good, no need for complaints.

(Chorus)
You love evil more than good, that’s the truth.
But God’s gonna root you out, gonna cut you loose.
You trust in riches, but that won’t last,
God’s justice is comin’, comin’ fast.

(Outro)
Mighty man, you fall by your own hand,
While I stand strong in the promised land.
Your wicked ways won’t see the light,
But God’s love, yeah, it shines bright.
