PSA 8:3-4, When I consider your heavens, the work of YOUR fingers, the moon and the stars, which YOU have set in place, what is mankind that YOU are mindful of them, human beings that you care for them?
DEU 4:19, When you look up at the sky, you see the sun, moon, and stars, and everything in the sky. But don’t bow down and worship them, because the LORD your GOD has made these things for all people everywhere.
David knew that everything he saw was telling him about GOD, the creator. And David knew the story in the stars, and that the night sky and the sun itself told of the Gospel of the Messiah.
If you are ever confronted by the ruins in your life, slow down enough to recall what you are: You are the apple of HIS eye, and then remember that GOD has a plan for your life.
In any endeavor like this there are factors over which we have no control, and it is GOD who must arrange them. GOD must move in the areas where Nehemiah (or we) cannot.
The author of this psalm is not known for sure, however it is apparent that the occasion, the events surrounding the Psalm are the same for PSA 146-150. That occasion was the rebuilding of Jerusalem after the captivity, and the dedication of the temple and the rebuilding of the walls.
ISA 14:12-15, “How you are fallen from heaven, O Lucifer, (light bearer) son of the morning! How you are cut down to the ground, you who weakened the nations! For you have said in your heart: ‘I will ascend into heaven, I will exalt my throne above the stars of GOD; I will also sit on the mount of the congregation On the farthest sides of the north; I will ascend above the heights of the clouds, I will be like the Most High. You shall be brought down to Sheol, To the lowest depths of the Pit.
