A lot of cities are focused on green initiatives, spending money on upgrades that the public is unwilling to do on their own houses. Is it the role of the municipality to focus on solar panels, electric buses and become net zero at the expense of fixing pot holes and providing reliable services? In this clip Doug Main, Vice President of Communications for PACE (People's Action for Change in Edmonton), joins us to discuss the crucial role of municipal governance in shaping our communities.

We talk about the need for leadership, transparency and public engagement to help refocus on projects that truly serve the public interest.

In the full episode, Doug introduces the concept of political parties at the municipal level, a role PACE hopes to fulfill by offering voters more clarity and choice. While the regulatory framework for municipal parties is still evolving, he explains how these parties could be established in a way similar to provincial regulations. Doug also shares PACE’s plans for organizing, calling for "pace setters" in each ward to take leadership roles and build strong local associations.
