Dogs Rehabilitating Other Dogs

Lyndsey was born and raised in Boston, Massachusetts. As a young girl it was apparent that she had a passion for animals. While her friends were playing dress up with dolls, Lyndsey was arranging her stuffed animals by species. At that time there were no leash laws so Lyndsey headed out each day to ensure the neighborhood dogs always found their way home safe and sound.
This passion continued to grow and as a young adult Lyndsey spent every free minute volunteering at local animal shelters. Much to her parents’ dismay Lyndsey always had an irrefutable reason why her family should adopt an animal in need of a home. As a result, her home was always filled with a variety of fur balls, scales and feathers.
Once on her own and having to support herself Lyndsey found her way into corporate America working as a product marketing manager. She worked with many top fortune 100 and 500 companies to develop and market award winning products. Never giving up on her true calling, she continued to volunteer at shelters, started a small rescue, opened a pet boarding facility and trained to be a veterinary technician.
Frequently encountering animals that were labeled with behavioral issues she started to see things through a different lens which put her on a new path. Many of the so-called behavioral issues stem from a lack of understanding between humans and pets. So, she made it her mission to foster and support the human animal bond through education, training, proper diet and holistic treatments.
Take Kaiser for example, an 8-month-old GSD headed for a drop off at a local shelter. Kaiser was fear aggressive and unpredictable. The owners were at their wits end, unable to bring Kaiser anywhere. They loved Kaiser but he was becoming a liability.
Lyndsey and her dog Tessa worked with Kaiser to build his confidence and tolerance to things that startled him. Watching Kaiser grow into a loving and calm pup was so rewarding. It became crystal clear that using animals to help other animals is the key to success.
For more than 10 years, Lyndsey and Tessa worked side by side rehabilitating many fearful dogs and cats. Tessa would perform the initial assessment and Lyndsey would follow Tessa’s cues. Tessa would communicate to the animal that he/she was in a safe space and that Lyndsey could be trusted. Once that initial conversation happened, on a frequency only the dogs understood, Kaiser calmed and the healing began. Then it was time to work with the humans. Through education, awareness and respect for Kaiser’s personality Kaisers family were able to continue the healing process with compassion and patience.
When Tessa passed in 2023 Lyndsey adopted Kenya and is working to develop her skills to fill the very large paws that Tessa left behind.
Today Lyndsey continues to work, train and rehabilitate misunderstood animals. She is focused not only on strengthening the animal human bond but also on what humans can do to support the health of their best friends. This includes educating people on the misnomers of traditional veterinary care, the toxic food we feed our pets, vaccinations and other harmful treatments that can unequivocally contribute to an animal’s demeanor.
