Does Congress Prefer Sound Bite Over Healthy Debate?

Are Politicians more interested in the sensational sound bite? Have they lost the art of debate and healthy communication altogether? Jerry and Rose are joined by Millennial David Tennent, Founder of Capitol CNCT, a Washington D.C. based company looking to curate the next generation of political leaders in Washington.
David shares the impact a painting had that is hanging in the basement of the capitol building. The painting depicted members of Congress having a debate while the other members listened. This has been lost over the many years since. Now most members go in for 5 minutes deliver their speech and leave. David said he yearns for that world where there was true deliberation and logical debates.
From his opinion piece in CNCT Newsletter: “While a bullet narrowly missed former President Donald Trump, America has been hit head-on with a monumental choice: Will we turn down the heat on our divisive rhetoric? Or, will we let the pot of political hate boil over? As a former Congressional staffer who recently spent three years on the Hill, I have witnessed firsthand the division and self-segregation based on party inside Congress: The ‘us versus them’ mindset torched most opportunities for bipartisan relationships and collaboration became a niche concept.”
