Miami, Florida — On September 8, 2024, Miami-Dade Police officers pulled over Miami Dolphins wide receiver Tyreek Hill near Hard Rock Stadium just hours before a game against the Jacksonville Jaguars. The officers stopped Hill, driving a black McLaren, for reckless driving and not wearing a seatbelt. The situation escalated when Hill rolled his window up after handing his license to the officer. The officer knocked on the window again, demanding Hill keep it down. Hill, frustrated, asked for his ticket and rolled the window back up. This led to another officer forcibly pulling Hill from the car, pushing him face-first to the ground, and handcuffing him.

As the confrontation unfolded, Hill was heard on the phone with Drew Brooks, the Miami Dolphins’ director of team security, informing him of his detainment. Fellow Dolphin players Calais Campbell and Jonnu Smith arrived at the scene in an attempt to assist Hill. Campbell was briefly detained but later released without charges. Despite the rough handling, Hill did not resist arrest. Officers berated him for failing to comply with orders, and at one point, mocked him for his claim of having a knee injury, which he cited as the reason for not sitting on the ground. Hill received citations for careless driving and not wearing a seatbelt but was not arrested. Miami-Dade police announced that the officer who used force on Hill had been placed on administrative duties, pending an internal investigation.
