Former Democratic presidential candidate and Secretary of State Hillary Clinton suggested on MSNBC that Americans spreading pro-Trump "propaganda" should face legal consequences as a means to deter others.

Clinton, continuing to assert the false claims of Russian collusion in the 2016 election, said, "I also think there are Americans who are engaged in this kind of propaganda. And, whether they should be civilly or even in some cases criminally charged, is something that would be a better deterrent..." Many online pointed out the irony of her anti-free speech stance, given that the "Russiagate" narrative she promoted is considered one of the most significant instances of intentional disinformation in U.S. history.

"Hillary Clinton orchestrated the most destructive misinformation campaign in history. It was her abhorrent plan to corruptly cast the President of the United States as a Russian agent. She destabilized not only the country but also the world. If anyone should be jailed, it’s her," wrote legal expert Hans Mahncke. Alex Jones even joked, questioning whether Clinton would turn herself in for her role in promoting the Russian collusion narrative.

J.D. Vance, Donald Trump’s running mate, also weighed in, stating, "Here is Hillary Clinton, calling for civil and criminal penalties for speech she disagrees with. But why stop at jailing your opponents? Hillary is calling for censorship, but she’s really calling for violence. Reject censorship. Reject violence."

During the interview, Clinton also repeated the claim that Donald Trump is a "dangerous" figure, not just for America but for the world. Her remarks came just a day after a second assassination attempt on Trump by an alleged gunman in Florida. Donald Trump Jr. responded to Clinton's interview, stating on X, "Hillary Clinton knows exactly what she’s doing here. Just a day after a Democrat donor and Kamala Harris supporter tried murdering my dad, she is purposely fanning the violent leftwing flames to put his life further in danger."

Despite several recent instances of political violence against Republican candidates, the rhetoric from some on the left appears to remain heated as the 2024 election approaches.
