The song "Who Am I" by Casting Crowns was written by the band's lead singer, Mark Hall. The inspiration for the song came to him while he was driving home with his wife and children one night. During this drive, Hall was having a personal worship moment and began to reflect on the idea of being able to call out to God from anywhere and expect Him to hear. He pondered, "Who am I to think I can just call up to God whenever I want, from the middle of nowhere, and expect Him to hear me?"¹.

This thought led him to consider the duality of human existence: on one hand, humans are seen as conquerors and new creations, but on the other hand, life is fleeting, like grass that rises and is gone in a day. The song emphasizes the humility and gratitude of being able to pray to God, recognizing that it is only possible because of what God has done¹.

"Who Am I" was produced by Mark A. Miller and Steven Curtis Chapman and was released on February 22, 2004, as the second single from Casting Crowns' self-titled debut album¹. The song has been well-received and has won several awards, including Song of the Year and Pop/Contemporary Recorded Song of the Year at the 36th GMA Dove Awards¹.

It's a beautiful reminder of God's grace and the significance of our relationship with Him. Have you listened to any other songs by Casting Crowns?
