Ryan Wesley Routh, 58, has been charged with two federal gun crimes related to an apparent assassination attempt against former President Donald Trump.

The charges include possession of a firearm by a prohibited person and possession of a firearm with an obliterated serial number, with a combined maximum penalty of 20 years in prison and a $500,000 fine.

Routh appeared in court shackled and calm, and is scheduled for a bond hearing on September 23.

Routh was arrested after Secret Service agents fired shots near Trump’s golf course in West Palm Beach while he was playing.

An FBI complaint details how a member of Trump’s security noticed a rifle poking out from the tree line, prompting the Secret Service to shoot at Routh, who then fled the scene before being stopped on Interstate 95.

A loaded rifle with an unreadable serial number was found in the area where he fled, CNBC has reported.
