The U.S. State Department confirms that three Americans, including a U.S. service member, have been detained in Venezuela, accused in an alleged plot to assassinate President Nicolás Maduro. The Venezuelan government also says two Spaniards and a Czech have been detained under the same accusations.

In a statement obtained by Fox News Digital, the State Department denied the allegations with spokesman Matt Miller saying "any claims of U.S. involvement in a plot to overthrow Maduro are categorically false."
