Zoroaster, also known as Zarathustra, was an ancient Persian prophet and the founder of Zoroastrianism, one of the world’s oldest monotheistic religions. He is believed to have lived sometime between 1500 and 1000 BCE in the region that is now Iran. Zoroaster’s teachings, found in the Gathas—hymns attributed to him—focus on the worship of Ahura Mazda, the supreme god, and emphasize the duality of good and evil, urging individuals to choose the path of truth (Asha) and righteousness. Zoroaster's message also underscores free will, ethical living, and the eventual triumph of good over evil.
